Pull up Waylon Wyatt’s fall calendar and read it as a map instead of a list. October opened in St. Louis and ran through Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Washington, Philadelphia and Boston, crossed into Montreal, Ottawa, London Ontario and Toronto, and came back down to Irving Plaza in New York on the thirtieth. November is the United Kingdom and Ireland. January is Australia. April is Stagecoach, out in the California desert. Florida does not appear anywhere on it.
That is not a grievance against a twenty year old from Arkansas. It is a routing decision, and routing decisions are the clearest window anyone outside the business gets into how the touring industry actually prices a market. So we want to lay out who Wyatt is, what he has built in roughly two years, and then say plainly why Central Florida keeps falling off calendars like this one, including the part of that answer that does not flatter us.
A construction job and a phone video
Waylon Wyatt Potter was born in Hackett, Arkansas on October 16, 2006, which means the Atlanta date on this run fell on his twentieth birthday. He wrote his first song at six. He lost his older brother Dylan when he was eight, picked up a guitar in the aftermath, and years later turned that into “Phoning Heaven.” He did not find country music properly until he was fifteen, and he found it on YouTube, which tells you more about how this generation of artists gets formed than any label biography will.
He was working for his father’s construction company when he posted a video of an original called “Everything Under the Sun.” It cleared a hundred thousand views on TikTok fast enough that record labels were calling inside a week, and he signed with Music Soup and Darkroom Records. That is the entire origin story. It is worth noticing how short it is, because the old version of this story took five years of writer rounds and a publishing deal first.
Three projects, two gold singles, and an Opry debut
“Til the Sun Goes Down” arrived as an EP in July 2024 and was expanded that November. It took Album of the Year at the 2026 Arkansas Country Music Awards, where he had already picked up Acoustic Act of the Year and Young Artist of the Year the year before. “Out of the Blue” followed in June 2025 and was the first project he cut with a full band rather than alone. “Dustpiles,” his debut album, came out on July 17, 2026, and six days later he made his Grand Ole Opry debut.
The singles are where the numbers sit. “Arkansas Diamond” is certified gold and has passed fifty million streams. “Jailbreak,” cut with Bayker Blankenship, is gold as well. He has recorded “Smoke & Embers” with Willow Avalon and “Didn’t Forget” with Wyatt Flores. His voice is thin in the way young voices are thin, and the thing he gets right, which is the hardest thing for a twenty year old in this format to get right, is that he sings like someone who is twenty instead of performing a weathered version of himself.
Why the route skips us
Here is the geography problem, stated without sentiment. A promoter routing a club tour through the Southeast can play Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh on three consecutive nights without a drive longer than about four hours. Adding Orlando or Tampa means a day down and a day back, because Florida is a peninsula and there is nothing on the far side of it. On a run of rooms in the eight hundred to fifteen hundred capacity range, where the margin per night is already thin, two travel days is not a rounding error. It is the difference between a leg that clears and a leg that breaks even.
So the business treats Florida as a destination market rather than a routing market. Acts come here when the guarantee justifies the detour, which in practice means arena support slots, casino rooms and festivals. That is why this region turns up constantly on calendars for artists two tiers above Wyatt and almost never for artists at his level.
The argument against us
We should name our own interest before pushing this any further. We are building a festival in Apopka, and the sentence “Florida is underserved by touring” is the foundation our entire business case sits on. Discount what follows accordingly.
The strongest counter is that the skip is simply the right call. Florida’s mid-size club circuit is genuinely thinner than Georgia’s or the Carolinas’, and a promoter putting a twenty year old with no Florida radio history into an Orlando room is guessing with somebody else’s money. Wyatt also has a straightforward commercial reason to protect his spring, because Stagecoach is on the calendar for April 2027 and the sane play before a festival payday is a clean schedule rather than a weekend spent testing a market nobody has asked him to test. Add the Australian run in January and the United Kingdom dates in November and what you have is a team spending his touring capital where it already converts.
We think that reasoning is sound and still incomplete. “Dustpiles” did not sell by region. It streamed, and streaming does not respect peninsulas. The question we would be asking in his agent’s chair is not whether Florida has any history with him. It is what the Orlando and Tampa listening numbers on this record look like next to Charlotte’s. We do not have those figures. His team does, and the honest version of this piece admits that the answer might vindicate the route exactly as it stands.
Frequently Asked: Is Waylon Wyatt playing Florida?
Not on anything currently announced. His published calendar through April 2027 covers the Midwest, the Southeast as far south as Atlanta, the Northeast, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and Stagecoach in California, with no Florida date listed. Tour calendars change often, and a 2027 leg behind “Dustpiles” is the most likely place a Florida show would surface.
The Sunset Country Festival takes place on April 3, 2027 at the Apopka Amphitheater, 3710 Jason Dwelley Pkwy, Apopka, FL 32712. Gates open at 2:00 PM.
